Rocketing into the new year involved a whole new level of pessimism – I haven’t made any New Years Resolutions this year on account of not completing the last ones. A new year is often seen as a fresh new start (hence the high suicide rate) but is it really? Many writers use the New Year as an opportunity to start something fresh – which is all well and good – but I tend to spend the start of the New Year reflecting on the last year and how it could have been improved. More writing would be a start.
In lieu of resolutions, I’m going to make some writerly-based targets and put them here so we can all have a good chuckle this time next year. Fun times all round, huh?
In 2012 I plan to:
– Edit and make more progress with my novel. This is an important one, as I’ve taken a temporary break from it in order to go back and look at it with the “oh God what was I thinking?” perspective.
– Begin writing a script with the intention of pitching it at some point in the next couple of years to the drama group I attend.
– Maintain a diary.
The next two weeks will begin talking about the first two items on this list. Let’s see how it goes.
Happy New Year.
