Am I going to destabilise the alphabet project just for a tribute post? You bet I am.
Honestly? I’m probably not the best person to write this. I haven’t read much of his stuff, but Ray Bradbury is a highly prolific science fiction writer and it’s a devastating loss to the science fiction community, so I’m giving him a shout out here, in this place of writing and writers. Ray’s (arguably) best known stories were The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451 and Something Wicked This Way Comes.
Oddly enough, he passed away during the Transit of Venus, which occurred between America’s evening on June the 5th, to the morning of June the 6th in Europe. Considering his status as a writer who wrote a lot about Martians and space, it’s a rather fitting time to pass away.
For your enjoyment, here’s one of his online short stories, “Juggernaut“.
Rest in peace, Ray.
